IOE Case Status: How to Check and Read It

A receipt number starting with IOE marks a case that USCIS handles electronically. You can follow it in two USCIS tools: the public case status page and your USCIS online account. This guide shows what each one shows, how to read the codes behind your account, and when to ask USCIS about a case that seems stuck.[1][2]

Where to Check an IOE Case

USCIS Case Status Online is open to the public and needs only the receipt number. It shows the last action taken on the case and the next steps, if any.[2][3]

USCIS says its case status web page gives you the same information you would get by speaking to a representative.[2]

Your USCIS online account at my.uscis.gov shows case status and history, lets you view notices and send secure messages, and is where you respond to Requests for Evidence. A case with an IOE receipt that was not filed online can be added with the Online Access Code from your Account Access Notice.[4]

Reading the Event Codes in Your Account

Behind the account page, each case is stored as data with a list of events, and each event has a short code. Our USCIS API Tracker guide shows how to copy that data. Many codes appear in the NIEM list of benefit document status codes; others have no published meaning, and CaseTicker labels them as a community reading or as not confirmed. The disclaimer explains these labels.[6]

Some common codes and what they mean, from the dictionary the case tracker uses:[6]

If Your Status Has Not Changed

To judge whether a wait is unusual, compare it with the USCIS processing times for your form and office: the tool shows the time in which 80% of cases were decided over the last six months, and a case inquiry date based on the time in which 93% were decided.[7][8]

USCIS describes the case inquiry date as a way to know whether a case is taking longer than usual and when an inquiry is appropriate. If you have tried the online tools and still need help, USCIS says you can submit an online case inquiry or call the USCIS Contact Center.[8][2][9]
